Mashroor Hasan Bhuiyan

I’m Mashroor, a CS PhD student at UT Dallas, working in the SysNetS lab with Dr. Imtiaz Karim on the security and privacy of wireless technologies. Your phone spends all day talking to towers, routers, earbuds and whatever smart device happens to be in the room — mostly to strangers it has no real way to verify. I look for the places those conversations go wrong, across 5G and LTE, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth and IoT. Billions of devices run the same handful of protocol stacks, and there is never a shortage of people trying to break them, for money or for sport.

Most of my attention right now goes to 5GAgent, which puts LLM agents on the tedious half of security testing: reading 3GPP specifications the way an engineer would, then turning that into test cases that catch where a real baseband implementation quietly drifts from what the spec says. The specs run to thousands of pages, which is exactly the sort of reading worth handing to an agent. I also work on Voice-over-Wi-Fi testing, some of which is published at INFOCOM. Before Dallas I spent a few months at Inverse AI, an ML-research startup in Dhaka. My undergraduate work at BUET ran in the opposite direction — entirely hand-driven — pulling apart TLS 1.3 state machines in s2n-tls and OpenSSL with StateLearner under Dr. Md. Shohrab Hossain, which turned up bugs I disclosed to the library maintainers.

Outside of that, two habits have stuck around: competitive programming and mathematics. I made it to the ICPC Asia West finals and was on Bangladesh’s team at the 2019 International Mathematical Olympiad, and I still pick at problems when I should be doing something else. Otherwise it’s geography and religions — I read about both considerably more than is useful.
